The Veterans Appreciation Foundation – Zanesville shared in the celebration of Dale Jones, a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army who turned 100 years old! The birthday celebration was held November 18 at the Zanesville post of the VFW with over 100 people in attendance. Sgt. Jones was honored with a pinning ceremony to show appreciation and recognition of his service to our county. Heidi Williams, RN with Genesis Hospice did the pinning, Wayne Clark and Ben Jennings representing The Veterans Appreciation Foundation presented a certificate while Becky Joseph RN, CHPN with Interim Hospice bestowed a patriotic fleece blanket in memory of his service and his birthday.
After serving for three years in WWII, Sgt. Jones found his way back to Ohio with only $300 in his pocket. He settled in Zanesville in 1956, raised a family and still lives in the same house. Although Jones hung up his uniform decades ago, he still has fond memories of his time in service and is always willing to give advice to the next generation of U. S. Soldiers. Many of his grandchildren have followed his example and are serving our nation in uniform.
Today, Jones at 100 years young, shows no sign of slowing down. He is active helping his community, bowling or volunteering at his church. He is a loving father, grandfather and proud citizen. You may see him out and about with his trusty black ball cap. it reads “World War II Veteran”. Thank you Dale Jones for your service to our country and the preservation of our freedom!
